forExpressionSimple Add-in
Released (2/18/2007)
The first in what we intend will be a long line of Add-Ins
and other tools for Expression Web. This add in does very
little:
- It will display a dialog box when you click the smiley
face
- it will switch you to Navigation View when you click the
only other icon in the command bar. (see note)
Price: $Free Download!
Simply download one or the other (or both) of these to your
computer, preferably to a temp directory, and then run one.
Follow the usual Windows installer on-screen instructions.
The next time you start Expression Web, it should take a little
longer while the add-in loads. When you see the new
toolbar with the smiley face and another button, your all set!
You must open a web site and have a page open before the switch
to navigation view will work. And for reasons I'm not sure
of yet, it might not work the first time you try it. It
seems to work after the first time you try it, then exit and
restart EW. I don't know what's up with that!
To uninstall the add-in, just run the installer again and select
"remove". You can also uninstall through the Windows
Control Panel Add-Remove Programs applet.
NOTE: Navigation View as it exists in
Expression Web currently is not very functional. That is
probably why Microsoft has made a point of not telling anyone
about it. You can add new pages from it, and you can
create a tree structure of pages in your web by dragging and
dropping pages from the Folders List to the view. However,
this will not actually create any navigation controls on your
pages. It will just be a pretty picture you can admire
when you switch to the view by clicking on the button. I
am making this available mainly as a novelty for those who want
to experiment with add-ins. It has been working pretty
reliably for me. Your mileage may vary.
Tip: You may get a message saying:
"active window is not set--can't switch to navigation view--sorry."
That message means that you need to have an existing local web
site opened, as well as a page within that web site. The
Navigation add in only works with local web sites - it won't
work with a site opened from the internet. That message means
